assume vivid astro focus will be presenting a group of brand new works at the upcoming armory show with The Suzanne Geiss Company. The installation is comprised of two paintings, a wallpaper and a neon piece and it's part of Armory Focus, a section inside the fair curated by Andy Warhol Museum's director, Eric Shiner.

This exhibition explores the confluence of political action and Pop music through contemporary art practices. As the exhibition reveals, art-making is a means of addressing current cultural production from specific ideological stances expressed through personal empowerment practices, shared spaces, the viewer´s emancipated gaze, mass media, and an approach and reconnection of diverse information. For this show avaf will be displaying a grouping of 32 of their "Cyclops Trannies" drawings (2011) from a private collection against "antes vulgar agora fino" (2011) wallpaper. Featured artists include assume vivid astro focus, Gabriel Acevedo Velarde, William Cordova, Red Caballo, Discoteca Flaming Star, Jeremy Deller & Nick Abrahams, Luke Fowler, Till Gerhard, Luis Jacob, Jeleton, Kalup Linzy, Jennie Livingston, Christian Marclay, Ryan McGinley, Momu & No Es, Dave Muller, Raymond Pettibon, Mickalene Thomas, among others.

avaf was invited by the Museu de Arte Moderna, São Paulo to create the environment for the museum's 2012 gala party. This benefitparty was organized by MAM's group of young collectors Núcleo Contemporâneo and raised funds for the museum's bi-annual exhibition of Contemporary Brazilian art, Panorama da Arte Brasileira. The immersive installation included a projection-mapped façade on Oscar Niemeyer's OCA on Ibirapuera park (right next to the São Paulo Biennale building) featuring one of avaf's kaleidoscopic animations along with interior installations with wall panels and color fluorescent lights, balloons featuring different words in portuguese with the avaf initials, new masks, etc.

Permanent installation July 2012
Citizen M Hotel commissioned avaf to create a floor-to-ceiling mural in the lobby of their London hotel, just blocks away from the Tate Modern. The mural joins works by Hans ob de Beeck, Mark Titchner, Mario Testino, and Gavin Turk on view throughout the hotel.

From Bloomberg and Art 21, The Lift is an exhibition presented in the many elevators at Bloomberg's headquarters in New York. avaf's kaleidoscopic environments, which extend over six elevator cars, join the work of artists Kiki Smith, and Andrea Zittel in this transformative, site-specific project.
Visionare 62 : Rio|
For Visionaire 62 Rio, the iconoclastic magazine features a series of 3D work by artists Maurizio Cattelan, Pierpaolo Ferrari, Marilyn Minter, Richard Phillips, Vik Muniz, avaf, and video artist Marco Brambilla that aim to reinterpret Rio de Janero. In the nineteenth century, stereoscopes provided a primary source of imagery and news from faraway lands and, here, Visionaire 62: Rio takes a decidedly analogue approach to achieve the same mesmerizing effect.

In a special collaboration with the non-profit Art21, avaf invites the global creative community to participate in comboworks by submitting their own acronyms. A recurring motif throughout avaf's work has been the play on "avaf" as a multi-dimensional, ever-morphing acronym. Phrases using the four letters have been used as titles for works and exhibitions, even appearing in different combinations their email signatures. Participants input a four-word combination in the comboworks website, which outputs an image of the submitted phrase displayed in a custom "LED" typeface designed by the artists, allowing for each "combo" image to be shared across platforms.

The 2012 installment of ACRIA's storied Unframed benefit auction was guest-curated by Michael Cunningham, who selected 20 contemporary artists in honor of ACRIA's 20th year. All artists donate works to ACRIA to raise much-needed funds for this important organization. The event was presented by Architectural Digest. avaf created four prints of "Demolition Trannies" specially for the ACRIA event.

avaf was one of seven Brazilian artists selected to create a custom KitchenAid mixer for the company's collaborative exhibition "Custom," with Brazil S/A, Milan and SP-Arte, São Paulo. All proceeds from the works sale benefited Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo.

Filmed in Eli Sudbrack's Brooklyn studio, he discusses the motivations behind the collective's use of masks during public events and installations. Originally created to enjoy personal anonymity at openings, avaf has continued to use masks in their work as a way to create equality between itself and the audience and to encourage free personal expression. Masks have had an important role in avaf's numerous projects.

As part of PNCA's Intermedia lecture and residency series, avaf's Eli Sudbrack was invited to lecture on multimedia art making and collaboration. As a vehicle to describe avaf's diverse practice and conceptual and cultural motivations, Eli walked the audience through avaf's recently published monograph in a book tour lecture/performance. While at PNCA, Eli also created a series of prints with the aid of students and professors in the print-making department.

"Art in the Twenty-First Century", season six chronicles thirteen profiles of artists from five continents through thematic episodes covering: Change, Balance, History, and Boundaries. In the episode "Boundaries," avaf discusses the weaving together of differences that drives the remote nature of their collaborative process. Here, Eli speaks on how he and Christophe combine their practices across Brazil, New York, and Paris.

Brazilian based design-house Amapô incorporated avaf sketches for different projects and created new custom textile designs for their winter 2012 collection.

avaf was invited to curate the March 2012 issue of China Modern Weekly. The issue, which focused on men's fashion, included editorial spreads that featured avaf's own work, as well as work by 1980s visionary artists Rammellzee and Antonio Lopez.

For the grand opening of Galerie Melisssa in New York, the Brazilian company commissioned avaf to create an animated video, glittering mural, and neon-light installation for the white gallery boutique. The space will house a rotation of art installations throughout the year.
